The Guide Stones sit on a site 7 miles north of Elberton on Georgia Highway 77 and are often referred to as an American Stonehenge. It was found that the writing had “Let these be Guide Stones to an age of reason” written in Babylonian cuneiform, Egyptian hieroglyphics, Sanskrit, and classical Greek.

What made the first explosion?

Why totally destroyed 24 hrs later, rather than partially salvaged and investigated? Our EOD unit made the call to demolish the entire structure since someone destroyed one of the five vertical slabs that held the structure up.

Who dug up the time capsule?

However, the theory about a time capsule being buried came into the picture after the historic monument was demolished. After years of rumors about a time capsule on the site of the Georgia Guide Stones and a plaque at the site claiming there was one — no time capsule has been found.

The GBI said preliminary information indicates that someone detonated an explosive device at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday.

The GBI is releasing additional surveillance video that shows an unknown person leaving an explosive device at the Georgia Guide Stones. The video is unclear, but agents are still actively working to identify the person leaving the scene after the explosion.
